Charming Pangkor Island ?

The little tropical island of Pangkor in Perak, Malaysia ( you can actually cycle around the whole of this island within a leisurely 4 hours ) is a rather unassuming and laid back resort village trapped in a kind of time zone , quite like many offshore islands too in Malaysia . On the one hand bullish businessmen love tourists like heaven while on the other ( usually politically "correct" ) over-conservative 'naturalists' ( hahaha) fear the love-hate crowds will sooner or later cause the extinction of million-year-old natural attractions.

The total collapse of the awesome 'world famous" leatherback turtles of Trengganu maybe a case to ponder...meanwhile da finger pointing goes on...& on...

Perhaps we should LEARN ( not 'study' or 'tour' please ) from some other less endowed countries ( sounds familiar ?) but invariably seem better(smarter perhaps ?) prepared to handle tourists of any creed and kind, & who infact thrives on da Tourist Dollar as a Godsent( even with imitation beaches ala Sentosa Island , courtesy Singapore OMG !).

Never mind , meanwhile do enjoy the show below , on some still alluring natural ( not faked ) charms of Pangkor, often at remarkable prices that will bring :-))) to your faces as bright as the tropical glow here...errr ...ok lah sometimes...

Natural beauties imminently endangered ? ...we pray Pangkor 4 will be much brighter !

some places of interests...

Malay roadside delights , don't ever miss them !

Chinese backStreet bites, as chin-kee as they come

It does seem though that the much overhyped Visit Malaysia Year 2007 has no real positive effects on this quaint little island here... far as we see...

Kg Cina's Seafood , Sitiawan

the secrets out !

Kg Cina in Sitiawan ( Perak , Malaysia ) has been a main draw for outstation travellers (seafood afficianados in particular ) ever since the Lumut Naval Base was set up in the 80s. Today there are only about 10 active seafood restaurants here and its chief attraction is the lower pricing compared to the bigger towns. The other advantage is perhaps its closeness to the fishing village of Pasir Panjang , about 5 km away.

While not in the same culinary league as good olde Klang or eclectic Bk Tambun near Penang , Kg Cina together with its neighbours Pangkor and Pantai Remis nevertheless have their own 'killer' dishes, especially the rare one-of-a-kind Hock Chew specialities .

Visitors to Pangkor/Lumut will still probably end up here on weekends !
and for a good reason !

From Teluk Intan before entering Kg Koh/Sitiawan , turn left towards Seri Manjung. Then look for Kg Cina sign , on your left.
Kg Cina can be fully covered in all of 20 minutes so don't worry !

Some Kg Cina Seafood Restaurants along the road .

A few Kg Cina starlets

A seafood dinner for 7 , under RM100 ( its still possible ! )

...but remember your seafood should always be sea fresh

Sitiawan's Fish Head

A half headed tri-onion steamed fish

Sitiawan, Perak is not normally associated with exceptional food , other than one or two unique items such as the cheaper fresher Kg Cina seafood(s) , the Hock Chew wanton noodles , red wine noodles , the saucer shaped bun Kong Pian & maybe that red bow-tie James cendol fella beside the Indian temple or that nasi lemak bungkus cum roti canai Malay stall near the river.

...and so a breakaway bsg team was sent to gluttonized this 'awesome' thing somebody raved non-stop about.

strangely though it is found inside a Bak Kut Teh shop !

This is the latest discovery in City-A1 . Chinese clear steamed fish head ( sepang ?) with multiple onion extras and 3 limes . Rm34.40 . Visually awesomely impressive , ...but... tastefully it isn't ! ...and price not cheaper than KL !
The Chan Sow Lin ( Sg Besi , KL ) fish heads rank a few scales higher in all departments !

simple interior Chinaman style

shoplot along Sitiawan-Kg Sitawan road , near Hotel Intan .

Can try head for stunning visual effects. Otherwise check next few posts coming up !

Raya open house

a Malaysian mega!treat

About 200,000 people are expected to attend the Hari Raya open house hosted by PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his Cabinet Ministers at the PWTC on Sat ( 13 Oct 2007 ), reported local newspaper The Star .

RM 1.5 million has been budgetted for the event that is being held at the venue for a 4th consecutive year.

30 types of traditional Malay delicacies, including ketupat, satay, rendang and raya cookies ( see above ) prepared by 76 cooks would be served . About 50,000 kg of meat, vegetables, fruits, chillies and fish would be used to prepare the dishes , at RM 7.50 a head OR issit
RM75 a head !!?? omg ! but read on guys n gals...

The 'makan besar' ( f e a s t ) buffet spread would go round & round for 6 hours something like this ...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

TsunamiMAN RPK of Malaysia Today has, fresh from his lop-sided victory against "Tyson" the double Mohamed is his name delivered another of his signature killer-blows to The Star’s mind-boggling news report above.

" will take the PM(AAB) about 5 secs to shake the hand of 1 guest, if he does not talk to them and indulge in idle chit-chat.

So, in 1 min, AAB can shake the hands of 12 people and in an hour 720 people. Considering the open house is for only 6 hours, Abdullah will be able to shake the hands of only 4,320 people.

Assume that all the guests drive and each car averages 4 people. As there are 1,850 parking lots and each car takes 30 min to an hour to get in and then out , at the most 50,000 people can drive there unless they take a train, bus or taxi.

Logistically speaking, it is impossible for 200,000 people to drive there and shake the PM’s hand in 6 hours.

20,000 would make more sense.

This means ,

1) 195,680 guests will just go there and eat without wishing AAB Hari Raya or without shaking his hands.

2) AAB will have to extend his 6-hour open house to 278 hours or almost 12 days , standing for 12 days without sleeping, etc, etc , in-between shaking the hands of 200,000 people.

3) The 200,000 guests is a bullshit figure and a spin by the Fourth Floor boys to impress us that the PM is very popular while we know that only 20,000 will actually turn up.

So who is the caterer, & how much is the contract worth, and for how many people are they actually catering for?

At RM1.5 million for 200,000 persons , this works out to RM7.50 per head.

At the real figure of 20,000, then the cost spirals to RM75.00 per head !

If I were the caterer I would prepare food for only 20,000 people, knowing that this would be the actual figure, and then charge the government for 200,000 people. ***neat*** !

I would then make a tidy net profit of more than RM 1 million , even after deducting 'whatever" money I need to pay to those awarding me the contract. "

...meanwhile... the happy VIPs at a separate exclusive cozy corner are taking another big portrait for tomorrow's headlines before adjourning to the Mother of all Raya feasts here here...

only a measely from RM 500 per viphead , excluding champagne
compliments of, you + 200,000 people

its a rich mans world ...

Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Holidays !

prime Dining , Minister style

...a really mouthwatering menu

Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra , the country's first PM . 4 times married ( 2 were Chinese ) and so down-to-earth he was pressured to leave office after the infamous 1969 riots . He refuses to go away though as his ghostly chants of "Merdeka" will invariably fill the air every 31 Aug on Independence Day.

He loves racing plus some. And Hainanese chicken chops too . In no particular order.

Then came Tun Abdul Razak , the studiously firm 2nd PM , who introduced the 30 or so year-NEP ( the new economic policy ) , a policy now inadvertently becoming everlasting .

His eldest son Najib is the current Deputy PM and Defence Minister. Educated in England , he is known to love smoochy French food but also has a strange penchant for Mongolian delicacies such as this BBQ ...

...the scrumptious Mongolian BBQ meat on a platter

Sentimental Hussein Onn is the 3rd PM , taking over after a tearjerking swearing-in ceremony after the death of his beloved brother-in-law Abdul Razak, who died early from a heart-attack , induced by , some say his extreme disappointment with the less than satisfactory performance of his fellow brethens . The short -lived Hussein ( he passed away also from heart trouble) probably loves kebab since his forfathers were Arabs while his hoarse voiced son the current Education Minister sometimes wields his crooked Keris ( traditional Malay small hand knife ) eccentrically as a past time, usually in front of large noisy crowds .
Hussein's suspected favorite dish , bread kebabs

Mahathir Mohamad , the country's controversial go-getter 4th PM and the nemesis of the International Monetary Fund ( IMF ) is well-known for his simple lifestyle ( he doesn't play golf ) & tastes and so he likes simple food such as this little bread , so much so from his sick bed in IJN ( Naional Heart Institute , KL ) he could still direct the setting up of his 2nd gourmet bakery 'the Loaf" in Pavilion,KL.
All eyes ( and ears ) are now anxiously awaiting his full recovery on his expected cutting-edge comments on the 'Lingamgate Video ' blockbuster ( hot on the heels of the other one Namwee's Negarakuku ) , now playing to packed houses in Blogoshere.

Our current holiday loving PM ( " ...I have spoken to my Cabinet "... ) meanwhile is fond of Mamak Nasi Kandar ( Indian Muslim rice ) and will spare no efforts to ' bungkus ' ( takeaway ) from his favourite shops like Kayu , Pelita , etc ., etc.

We are not sure about his multi-talented gatecrashing finger pointing 'My Team' SIL (son-in-law ) though . People say he is quite conscious of his fake Hindustani movie star looks cum swasbuckling political ambitions and doesn't care much for Mamak food like his FIL

We present above the salivating best of Mamaks ! Once try must fall asleep in seconds , especially during ( big ) meetings .
Enjoy ! ( but keep yr eyes o p e n )

Dinner , tales for 2

a quickie lesson on everlasting l o v e

Nice wonderful dinner for 2 at Bangsar 1 .
Lovely companionship , intoxicating drinks. Wonderful music. Fabulous service. Marvellous intimate attention ! What more could a virile gal ask for ? right ?

Jokes, laughters , chatters aplenty...Boss's ex G/F and current Burmese mistress. Noisy neighbor's stupid dogs , even more stupid maid hahaha the time her low rise pinky G-strings were stolen by the horny Indons . latest co. dinner , that wonderful new Korean bbq cafe in KL Pyramid , that Bali trip , that lovely pot luck the other night with the office mates at Jo's new condo , that unbelieavable fully clothed ...Gwen Stefani ..aiya i wanna see Beyonce lah ! Oh that bench press state of the art Fitness 2nd USJ 32 which Amber Chia nearly broke , remember ? show me 2morrow ok hahaha life is great !

after you really **** me dear ? ... u know it has...

why of course ! sure or not ? but...

1. Was his physical expression limited & stiff, with few arm and hand movements ? Were his arm and leg movement toward his own body ? The liar takes up less space. avoids eye contact . Hands touching face, throat & mouth. Touching or scratching the nose or behind his ear.

2. Emotional Gesture Contradiction . Timing and duration of emotional gestures and emotions are off a normal pace. The display of emotion is delayed, stays longer than it would naturally, then stops suddenly...

3. Timing is off between emotions , gestures/expressions and words. He says " you are wonderful "when done, and then smile (that one)after making the statement, rather then at the same time the statement was made .

4. Gestures/expressions that don’t match the verbal statement, such as frowning when saying “I love you.” Expressions are limited to mouth movements when someone is faking emotions (like happy, surprised, sad ) instead of the whole face.

5. this smile. when someone smiles naturally their whole face is involved : jaw/cheek movement, eyes and forehead push down, etc see pixs below

6. Interactions and Reactions A guilty person gets defensive. An innocent person will often go on the offensive. A liar is uncomfortable facing his questioner/accuser and may turn his head or body away. A liar might unconsciously place objects (book, coffee cup, etc.) between themselves and you.

7. Verbal Context and Content A liar will use your words to make answer a question. When asked, “Did you send her back ?” The liar answers, “No, I did not send her back ” . A statement with a contraction is more likely to be truthful: “ I didn't do it” instead of “I did not do it” . Liars sometimes avoid "lying" by not making direct statements. They imply answers instead of denying something directly.

8. The guilty person may speak more than natural, adding unnecessary details to convince you... they are not comfortable with silence or pauses in the conversation. A liar may leave out pronouns and speak in a monotonous tone. When a truthful statement is made the pronoun is emphasized as much or more than the rest of the words in a statement. Words may be garbled and spoken softly, and syntax and grammar may be off. In other words, his sentences will likely be muddled rather than emphasized.

9. If you believe someone is lying, then change subject of a conversation quickly, a liar follows along willingly and becomes more relaxed. The guilty wants the subject changed; an innocent person may be confused by the sudden change in topics and will want to go back to the previous subject.

Final Notes / thereafter
Obviously, just because someone exhibits one or more of these signs does not make him a liar. always remember to compare his before (normal) behavior whenever possible.

caution : then again , also...always check wheher he was with team bsg a few hours back !

WATCH OUT ! the gingerbread man is here !

Asia's next gourmet baker ?

Kuala Lumpur After introducing gourmet croissants to Malaysia, a national political icon is now cooking up an invasion of Southeast Asia of the baking kind.

The 82 years young former PM Mahathir Mohamad is chairman of Malaysia's first fancy bakery " The Loaf " (opened July 2006 ) in happening resort island Langkawi ( Kedah) and plans to turn his Japanese-style bakery business into a chain with outlets throughout the region. Its second, and biggest, RM 2 million outlet will open its doors in swanky Bukit Bintang shopping belt in KL this week.

"I think we can go to Singapore at the end of 2008 and Jakarta, Bangkok, Phuket and Bali in 2009," Jiro Suzuki, Mahathir's Japanese partner, told Reuters.

Unlike existing Malaysian chains, "The Loaf" offers about 100 kinds of premium bread, pastries and muffins prepared by a Japanese chef using traditional Japanese baking techniques.

Malaysians crave (see below) mainly mee (noodles) , nasi lemak ( or rice cooked with coconut milk ) and roti canai, a type of flatbread, for breakfast.

At The Loaf, patrons pay 5 ringgit for breakfast croissants, but a French bakery in a Japanese department store across the street charges less than half that amount for its version.

Mahathir himself has been sampling some of his bakery's offerings while recuperating in hospital after his heartpounding 2nd bypass operation in Sept 2007, his family said.

"We've been getting deliveries at the hospital and Dad's enjoyed the creme caramel for dessert a couple of times," his eldest daughter, Marina, wrote on her (yes ! click me) internet blog.
Mahathir drew inspiration for the shop from his favourite Tokyo bakery called "Johan".

He retired in 2003 after 22 years in office as Malaysia's 4th prime minister.

changing tastes

As our vehicle staggered along the road leading to the Federal Highway ( KL-Klang ), we managed to park along the broken kerbs we still vaguely remember just beside the little midnight tuck-shop famous for the big noodles splashed with black China vinegars , spicy clams , grilled fish and satay .

It is near da Teowchew then Hockchew then ?? (what the ) chicken rice shop ( with the boneless fair chicken meats + fish balls shop in Paramount Gardens PJ ( along same row as the new Seaview Restaurant )

the resulting blurred pixs of quite small flame from this strictly after 7 pm night stall

this off-color one was dished out like lightning ( without thunder )

followed by over-colored sticky smashed flatted wormies

lucky at least this one got some old feel

still too much ginger and garlic ( you mean people actually like it this way ?)

the morning after ( such a familiar nice name though)...
Its now clearer but no can't remember all those above neither should you !
